Cannon leads project “Clean-Up Drive”
Mr. Peter R. Cannon Jr., Principal III of PCEHS led the school’s “ Clean – Up Drive” on September 10,2016 ( Saturday )together with the General Parents and Teachers’ Association ( GPTA ), Supreme Student Government (SSG) ,Campus Integrity Crusaders ( CIC ) and YES – O members and officers with their advisers.
The drive aims to maintain environmental sustainability where members of the community are expected to be involved in keeping the environment clean particularly the school and its surrounding areas.
Snacks for the participants were provided and served by the GPTA .

PCEHS Young Journalists Attend Journalism Summit 2016
Young journalists from Pasay City East High School attended the Journalism Summit with the theme “Media in the 21st Century Connecting Today, Building Tomorrow” last Sept.03,2016 at the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.
The University of Perpetual Help Las Pinas Campus through the summit supports the advocacy of the Department of Education in encouraging students to practice and hone their journalistic skills while strengthening ethical values and developing discipline through the school press conference.
The journalists were given lectures ( in English and Filipino ) by resource speakers : Mon Gualvez , Junior Correspondent of Tv 5 – News writing ; Wilmor Pacay, former Editor – in – Chief of “The Torch” – Editorial Writing; Mr. Jesus B. Valencia Jr., President of NCRSSPA Inc. – Sports Writing ; and Ms. Jenny A. Amante, writer of UPH – Las Pinas Campus – Copy Reading and Headlining
Journalists were encouraged to submit outputs after the lectures and the best outputs were ranked and recognized.
Lance Rivera of Grade 10 –Rizal (Ang Libay) received a gift for his output in Sports Writing which was ranked First Place .

PCEHS Launches Learning Resource Center
Pasay City East High School headed by Mr. Peter R. Cannon, Principal III launched on Sept. 9,2016 the school’s Learning Resource Center with Mrs. Normina B. Hadji Yunnos, Education Program Supervisor ( EPS ) for LRMDS ; Ms. Jackie Lou Salaysay , Librarian II ; Mr. Ivan Grulla, Project Development Officer II ; Mr. Erick Comia , Information Technology Officer 1 and Mrs. Imelda Boquiren, OIC-EPS in English.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Peter R. Cannon emphasized that the LRC is very important because it is a big help not only for the students but also for the teachers .
Ms. Marietta Dadufalza, Master Teacher I and ICT Coordinator presented PCEHS official website ( pcehs.depedpasay ) where updates about the school and its accomplishments are posted.
In her message, Mrs. Normina B. Hadji Yunnos was all smiles when she said that, “PCEHS has the most beautiful library in the Division of Pasay.”
Miss Sharry Marie R. Selidio, PCEHS LRMDS Coordinator was proud of the LRC in her closing remarks as she promised to maintain the good standing of the center .

DOH-Pasay Implements School Based Immunization for Grade 7
Department of Education-Pasay, in coordination with the Department of Health ( DOH ) implemented free immunization for Grade 7 students in Pasay City East High School last Aug.10, 2016 .
The School-based immunization Program dubbed “ Bakuna para sa Kabataan , Proteksyon sa Kinabukasan”, is a nationwide free vaccination program for school children Grades 1 and 7 .
DOH authorities reiterated that the national immunization program is anchored on the basic principle that the health of children comes first.
The vaccine given to children Grade 1 to 7 are booster doses for tetanus, measles, and rubella ( German measles ) to prevent and to eliminate the emergence of vaccine-preventable diseases.

DepEd NCR Holds Capability Building for Secondary Head Teachers in English
The DepEd NCR through its Curriculum and Learning Management Division conducted a Capability Building for Head Teachers in Secondary English last August 23-25, 2016 at Batis Aramin Resort in Lucban, Quezon. The participants were the Department Heads and Supervisors from 15 Divisions in NCR. The activity aims to: enhance instructional leadership of Head Teachers in English; ensure indigenization of curriculum in the classroom; and improve the assessment tools and classroom activities for quality learning and teaching.
During the training, Dr. Genia V. Santos, CLMD Chief, revisited DepEd Mission, Vision and Mandates. Ms Flordelita G. Male, NCR Supervisor, gave the updates of the K-12 Curriculum Issuances, DepEd Orders and Memos. Ms. Ma. Gail Panganiban, Malabon Supervisor, ushered the participants to Walkthrough of the Curriculum Guide in English. Dr. Lucy Cruz, Paranaque Supervisor, highlighted the roles of Head Teachers in instructional supervision, while Ms. Jingle L. Sergote discussed the curricular innovation. The Learning Action Cell sessions were facilitated and processed by Mr. Vicente M. Victorio Jr. Manila Supervisor, and Ms. Imelda V. Boquiren, Pasay Supervisor. Ms. Nimfa Gabertan, Quezon City Supervisor, discussed DO no. 35, s. 2016. The contextualization/localization and indigenization were also presented through 4A’s Strategy by Ms. Winnie F. Tugade, Valenzuela Supervisor. The training was very worth-emulating for team-building was also done. Celebration Cum-sendoff for New PSDS
Mr. Peter R. Cannon, Principal III with the full cooperation of all the Department Heads and teachers took time out to celebrate a memorable turn in the life of fellow educator, Mrs. Evelyn R. Ramos as one of the 3 new Public School District Supervisors in the Secondary Level in the Division of Pasay.
Mr. Peter R. Cannon was jubilant when he said that he is proud that it is in his time as principal in PCEHS that head teachers were promoted like Mr. Roger Junio, former Mathematics Dept Head now the Education Program Supervisor in Mathematics and Mrs. Evelyn R. Ramos as PSDS.
Nicole R. Ramos, youngest daughter and a look-alike , was beaming with pride as she congratulated her mother in her recent achievement while a former student now a teacher, Michelle Mitra proudly shared her fond memories of Mrs. Ramos as a teacher, mentor and friend who inspired her to pursue her teaching career .
Mr. Baltazar Gonzaga, TLE/Prac. Arts Department Head was also as proud as the rest as he recalled his stints with Mrs. Ramos as a co-worker/coordinator and as a friend with their “partner” pet name for each other.
Flowers , gifts and confetti made the send-off colorful and symbolical as teachers gave their congratulations and kisses for Mrs. Ramos who looked like a debutante and beauty queen beaming with pride and happiness. – Helen G. Dimafelix
PCEHS Congratulates New Education Program Supervisor in Mathematics
PCEHS congratulates Mr. Roger R. Junio, the new Schools Division Supervisor in Mathematics , with a surprise program held in PCEHS AVR last August 1,2016 in the presence of Mr. Raymond San Juan, the new Public Education Program Supervisor , Mr. Peter R. Cannon, Principal III, Head Teachers, teachers , and invited special guests.
Mr. Peter R. Cannon said that he believed Mr. Junio can be at par with the other EPS as he congratulated and wished him all the best emphasizing that he was happy a head teacher from PCEHS is the new EPS in Mathematics.
All have the best words of appreciation and recognition for the erstwhile Mr. Junio as they corroborate that he is a not just a man of intellect but also a man of good heart who combines professional and friendly atmosphere in the workplace .
Mr. Raymond San Juan, former EPS in Mathematics, was jubilant as he emphasized that Mr. Junio is the most qualified to fill in his former post basing it from his performance as a Mathematics Department Head in PCEHS not to mention his dedication to the school and the division over the years.
All were in high spirits during the program as Mathematics teachers presented a song and dance number and a video of the past and present of Mr. Junio prepared by the ever dependable Mathematics teachers led by Ms. Virginia Mondero, OIC of Mathematics Dept.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Rogelio Junio reiterated that he will just be transferring post from PCEHS to the Division Office but nothing will change as he will make sure that he will still be visible in the school although not all the time.
The celebration was highlighted by the giving of tokens and send-off gifts for the new EPS from students, colleagues, friends, teachers and loved ones with the promise of full support. – Helen G. Dimafelix
PCEHS Wins 2nd and 3rd in the Division Contest
Selected students from PCEHS won 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the Division “Malikhaing Pagsulat ng Dagli at Informance” last August 11,2016 at Pasay City Science High School led by the Division Education Supervisor of Filipino, Mrs. Aida B. Silva.
“ Wag kayong mag-alala dahil kahit na di kayo manalo ay panalo pa rin kayo dahil kayo ang ang kinatawan sa inyong mga paaralan sapagkat kayo ang ‘cream of the crop’ . Ngayon pa lang ay binabati ko na kayo.”

Annual National Invention Contest and Exhibit held at SMX MOA
Selected PCEHS students with their Science mentors led by Miss Raquel Besmano and Miss MaryAnn Magpusao attended the “Annual National Invention Contest and Exhibit” last July 29,2016 at the SMX Convention Center , Seashell Lane, Pasay City.
The event was attended by delegates from different school divisions with the objective to inspire Filipino inventors and to showcase the creative ideas, works and inventions in science and agriculture using indigenous materials found in the country . Car break leak, sealing valve and solar powered water purifier were some of the inventions shown in the exhibit.
To break the monotony of the on-going exhibit, the organizers held an on the spot science quiz contest where Lance Diamond Ranon, Vance Sanosa of Grade 10 – Rizal and Christine Givertz of Grade 8 – Mangga won cash prizes . – Nicka Algo
Grade 7 students together with their advisers, teachers and proctors were all set for the National Achievement Tests as they proudly attended the assembly as early 6:30 A.M. of July 15 for the last minute instructions before they proceeded to their respected testing rooms.
Proctors from Pasay City South High School were as excited as the examinees .The test proceedings went well successfully with the supervision of the school principal, department heads, and teachers/advisers.
The day before the test, Mr. Peter R. Cannon Jr., Principal III of PCEHS, gladly announced in an afternoon meeting at the school gymnasium with the examines and teachers that the school would prepare lunch for the examinees and the teachers while Alumni from Batch ’84 and Batch ‘90 gave donations for the snacks ( Some of the donors from each batch showed up to show support on the day of the examination). – Vance Sanosa &Kim Charlotte Flores
Deped Pasay Teacher-Librarians Meet for Updates
Mrs. Jacky Salaysay, Division Librarian of the City Schools of Pasay with Mrs. Normina B. Harjyunos, Education Supervisor for LRMDS, Mr. Juan Grulla, Project Development Officer II(LRMDS) conducted a meeting with the 30 Teacher-Librarians from the different public schools in the Division of Pasay last July 26,2016,8:30 A.M. to 12Noon at the PCEHS Library.
Agenda in the meeting were the status of the School Libraries/Learning Resource Center, the Search for the Best Learning Resource Center, Accessioning and inventories of book collections, the updates of school LRMDS and the activities for the coming National Book Month Celebration.
Mrs. Thelma Magbago, PCEHS School Librarian shared her techniques and strategies in upgrading and updating the learning resource center of the school. She shared that she tried her very best to connect with people outside the school like those in the private sectors for donations of any kind for the benefit of the school library and the students as well as the teachers. She said that books were donated by teachers, alumni and private individuals and organizations. – Helen G. Dimafelix
GPTA Officers for SY2015-2016 Elected
Attended by elected GPTA classroom presidents from Grade 7 to Grade 10, the election of General Parents – Teachers Association’s new set of officers commenced last July 16 , 2016 in the school’s Audio Visual Room in the presence of faculty members and department heads with Mrs. Eda B. Escano as Master of ceremony.
The assembly started at around 8:30 A.M. which started with the Pambansang Awit followed by a prayer and the Pasay Hymn. Mr. Rouel Santero, Department Head of Science welcomed the participants in the absence of Mr. Peter R. Cannon, Principal III of PCEHS.
Since the outgoing GPTA President Cindy Sagay was not around, the accomplishments and financial report was discussed by Mrs. Lynnie Bandillo, GPTA SY 2015 – 2016 Vice-president .
Mrs. Marilou T. Cuenco, Head of the AP Dept discussed the existing guidelines for the GPTA election.
Mr. Marvin Racines,Chairman (Elecom) assisted by Social Studies teachers, facilitated the election proceedings.

Grade 10 “Future Chefs” Dominate Cooking Contest
Grade 10 “future chefs” dominate the recently concluded cooking contest on July 27,2016 held at the ground floor of AC bldg as part of the yearly celebration of the Nutrition Month with the theme: “First 1000 Days ni Baby, Pahalagahan para sa Malusog na Kinabukasan”.
The cooking contest aimed to expose the skills of the young learners in handling and preparation of food as they couple it with thrill and enjoyment where the Grade 10 students namely Andrei Masbad and Allan Santiago from section Alonzo won the First Place with their “Clam Moringa” while Grade 9 Sampaguita Mabel Dimayacyac and Meljhon Ordaniel gave their best in their “Pumpkin Soup”as they emerged Second Placer and Catherine Remolado and Lovely Hannah Moreto from section Bonifacio ranked Third Place with their recipe “Loverine’s Scrumptous Dilis”.
Mr. Peter R. Cannon Jr. visited the venue while contestants were busy cooking their masterpieces while Mrs. Evelyn R. Ramos, Head Teacher VI of the Filipino Department and Mrs. Marilou T. Cannon Leads Turn-over

Cannon, Principal III of Pasay City East High School led the “Ceremonial Turn-Over” of books donated to PCEHS by STI ( System Technology Institute) Pasay Campus represented by Mr. Arnel B. Almedora, STI Pasay Senior High School Coordinator, Mr. Leandro Francisco, STI, Pasay Career Adviser, with Mrs. Thelma P. Magbago, PCEHS Librarian, Mrs. Ma. Luisa E. Agos , Asst. Librarian and Mr. Baltazar Gonzaga, Dept .Head, TLE/PA .
The ceremony hosted by Ms. Karen P. Ventura started with a prayer led by Kei De La Cruz, President of Booklovers Club, followed by the simple yet meaningful words of welcome from the school principal. “ Although the books are for higher grades or college, Pasay City East High School is a lucky recipient because all students will benefit from them in their different subjects”, Mr. Cannon exclaimed.
Ladines Awards PCEHS as the Most Efficient School in LIS for EOSY 2015-2016
Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines, CESO IV , Schools Superintendent , awards PCEHS as the “Most Efficient School in Data Management and Learners Information System (LIS) during the end of SY (EOSY ) 2015 – 2016 last June 2, 2016 at the Philippine School for the Blind, Pasay City.
Ms. Virginia Mondero, Master Teacher I, PCEHS LIS Focal Person has ensured updated reports of all the forms needed in the program particularly the School Form (SF2 Attendance Form) and has managed to submit all needed forms on or before the agreed dates of submission.
Awards Certificate of Recognition to PCEHS
DOH-NCR awards certificate of recognition to PCEHS for its invaluable commitment and effort exerted by its officials and teachers in the advocacy and promoting School-Based Immunization Program, manifested through the high consent form retrieved and number of school children immunized.
Mr. Peter R. Cannon Jr. together with the other school principals received the award last June 2,2016 at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel in Sta. Cruz , Manila.
East strengthens Disaster Risk Awareness and Management
PCEHS “Brigada Eskwela 2016” encourages its community towards strengthening awareness on disaster and risk reduction management with the help and support of the City Government of Pasay headed by representatives Aaron Alejo, Registered Nurse, Emergency Management Training, from the Pasay City Disaster Risk Reduction management Office.
Alejo reiterated that the community particularly teachers and students must be properly informed on what to do during and after an earthquake, fire or flood which are all included in the school contingency plan.
The school must have documentation and reports as important parts of the plan to establish the state of the school during and after disaster. Likewise, a yearly assessment of flood contingency plan as early as June is required as well as the early warning system (such as markers, flood level warning ) in preparation for the National Earthquake Drill on June 22, 2016.
East Tops 4th Summer Reading Camp
With the theme: “I Can Read and Play” or I ReAP, this year’s camp aims to advocate advancement in the development of literacy through access and instruction in basic reading and information skills.
Learners were able to experience activities such as: interactive storytelling, collaborative brainstorming, speech choir, choral reading, parlor games origami design, health and fitness, placards making, film-viewing, positive discipline, oral and silent reading, and jazz chanting.
After careful validation of evaluation forms and reports submitted, the 4th summer reading camp evaluators from the division office declared the following schools as the winners: Elementary Level – rank1 Timoteo Paez Elementary School, Dr. Rolando E. Soriano, Rank2 Epifanio Delos Santos Elementary School, Mrs. Laarni R. Alejandro, and Rank 3 P. Villanueva Elementary School, Mrs. Lea M. Marcelo.Secondary Level – Rank 1 Pasay City East High School, Mr. Peter R. Cannon Jr., Rank 2 Pasay City West High School, Dr. Myrna B. Gaza, and Rank 3 Kalayaan National High School, Mrs. Emilia L. Tolentino.
The winning schools were the official entries to the 2016 regional search. In 2015, PCEHS also bagged the 1st place in the regional level.
PCEHS community supports Brigada Eskwela 2016
Pasay City east High School’s community supports “Brigada Eskwela 2016”, with the theme “Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa Mula Kindergarten Hanggang Senior High School”, headed by Mr. Peter R. Cannon Jr., Principal III.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. peter R. Cannon, emphasized the importance of cooperation, unity and responsibility in accomplishing tasks with tremendous benefits.
All education stakeholders are encouraged to participate and contribute their time, effort and resources to the school maintenance in ensuring that the school facilities are ready for the school opening in June.
The activity started with a parade from the school going around the vicinity of Malibay so as to encourage all the members of the community to get involved in the clean-up drive as well as the school repair and other maintenance work espousing on volunteerism.
Hosted by Ms. Leonida H. Serrano, Teacher III from the English Dept., a short program followed where all stakeholders – LGU’s from city to barangay level, private partners, private companies and individual volunteers and sponsors were duly recognized for their support in cash or in kind.
BFP Pasay Representatives Emphasize Awareness on Fire Safety and Prevention
BFP Pasay’s representatives Fire Officer 3 Leslie R. Polistico and Fire Officer 1 Rosalie M. Allid discussed fire safety and prevention measures during and after a fire incident, though the emphasis is on prevention.
Teachers and students actively participated in the activities particularly in the moving out drill in case of fire and hands-on use of fire extinguisher banking on the use of fire extinguisher as basic skill.
Polistico recalled through pictures and videos the past fire incidents in the country which resulted to severe damage in properties and worse loss of lives in the history. She reiterated that such misfortunes and loss could be averted if the public is into fire prevention and awareness.
